Acne, comedones, zits or pimples, whichever name you know them by, they can take away your face and body beauty. Inflammatory acne heals with facial scarring. Acne scars can be depressed, raised or pit scars and they can make the skin surface completely uneven. Earlier, skin acne scars were treated with procedures like dermabrasion. Besides, the skin resurfacing removes the superficial, scarred skin and replaces it with underlying, baby smooth skin. Earlier, the carbon Dioxide laser was associated with significant downtime (time required for healing, post laser treatment). But, this too has now been resolved following the use of the fractionated CO2 laser technology. The fractional CO2 laser leaves islands of normal skin, within the areas of the resurfaced skin and hence the skin heals much quicker and with minimal side effects like skin pigmentation.
Laser treatment of the acne scarring with carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing may need 4 - 6 sessions of laser treatment, depending on the depth and the area of the skin scars. Treatment cost depends on the area of treatment required and costs can range upto Rs. 30000 per sitting, if the full face is treated. Costs of CO2 laser skin resurfacing in India are approximately 1/3rd the costs of carbon dioxide laser treatments in the USA or UK.
